GRAMMY®-Award-winning guitar virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela are honoring this year’s Astor Piazzolla centenary with a very special new version of the Argentinian tango master’s “Oblivion.” The song – which is highlighted by a guest appearance from flamenco-guitar legend Vicente Amigo – premieres today at all DSPs and streaming services. “Oblivion” will be featured on Rodrigo y Gabriela’s upcoming JAZZ EP, arriving via Rubyworks/ATO on 12” cloudy orange vinyl (limited to 3,000 copies worldwide and individually numbered) and digital download on Friday, May 14; pre-orders and pre-saves are available now.

We have always had a great respect for Astor Piazzolla as a composer,” say Rodrigo y Gabriela. “We did a cover version of ‘Libertango’ on our first live album a long time ago, so we are delighted to present our take on his composition ‘Oblivion.’ What makes this even more special is to welcome one of our musical heroes – the great Spanish flamenco guitarist Vicente Amigo – as guest collaborator on this track. We are long-time fans of both Astor and Vicente, so we hope that our fans will now enjoy all these elements coming together.

Rodrigo y Gabriela’s first release of the new decade, the JAZZ EP further includes distinctive covers of Snarky Puppy’s “Lingus” and Kamasi Washington’s “Street Fighter Mas,” the latter of which is available now at all DSPs and streaming services; a celestial performance video is streaming now at YouTube. KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic posted the song, naming it as “Today’s Top Tune,” writing, “Guitar virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela have…recreated the LA jazz maestro’s ‘Street Fighter Mas’ with just two guitars. It may sound stripped down, but we don’t lose any of the song’s intricacies.

The release of “Oblivion” coincides with Rodrigo y Gabriela's entry into the new world of NFT's. The duo has collaborated with LA-based artist Josh Pierce on their last two album releases and also on the artwork for the METTAL and JAZZ EPs. Pierce is already active in the world of NFT art, so a joint entrance into this new field is a logical step.

“I immediately connected with Rod and Gab on the subjects of mindfulness, meditation and raising conscious awareness,” says Pierce. “Their talent transcends and rises above the rest of the everyday music scene. In the same way, I feel my art is intended to transform and, over the past two years, it has been a perfect fit."

The NFT of the JAZZ EP artwork is available for bid now. In addition to the digital file, the purchaser will also receive a physical print of the vinyl artwork signed by Rodrigo y Gabriela and Josh Pierce, plus an exclusive, private online performance streamed live from Rod and Gab's home studio in Mexico.

Rodrigo y Gabriela have also announced an EP release celebration livestream performance set to take place via Dreamstage on May 14. The show will take place at 6 pm PT/9 pm ET with an additional airing on May 15 at 8 pm GMT. Tickets are available now.
