Trust Records was formed to give seminal punk and hardcore records the home they deserve. The life-changing records of these genres sprung from DIY roots to influence millions of disaffected kids around the world. Unfortunately, many of these records have been treated poorly as we’ve moved into the streaming age - out of print, under-monetized or not properly accounted for. As we continue to move forward in time, it’s crucial to keep their spirit and legacy alive. Trust’s mission is to ensure this music is available for all future generations while also getting the story right.
In 2020 they launched with a whopper of release: Circle Jerks’ 1980’s landmark, Group Sex. The genre-shaping, fifteen minute album was given the “Trust” treatment for its 40th Anniversary. The deluxe reissue included packaging by Robert Fisher, designer of Nirvana’s Nevermind, a bonus recording of a 1980 rehearsal, a 20-page booklet including unreleased photos and anecdotes from Tony Hawk, Mike Patton, Shepard Fairey, Ian MacKaye, Lars Frederiksen and so many others, in addition to a quality repackaging in a limited colored vinyl schema. The remastered audio, which also included 5 bonus songs from Circle Jerks’ first rehearsal in 1980, were also made available across all digital retailers.
Selling out in just under 24 hours, the Group Sex 40th Anniversary reissue will see its second pressing and will hit stores in May 2021. It will be limited to just 1500 copies and is available for pre-order now exclusively on Trust Records’ official webstore which launched earlier this week. TrustRecordsCompany.com will house all your favorite punk cornerstones bringing new and exclusive apparel, accessories, vinyl, books, art and so much more. Trust will partner on merch with each iconic artist for every release along the way. Open now, you can already find official Circle Jerks, 7Seconds and BYO Records merch in-store, linked below.
Trust will be offering a limited Circle Jerks design for 48 hours only to celebrate the kick off of the store and the reissue repress of Group Sex. The shirt features flyer artwork by Wasted Youth singer Danny “Scranny” Spira of the legendary 1981 Circle Jerks show which was one of the last punk shows inside the infamous Whisky A Go Go. The August 3rd gig featured the Circle Jerks and Wasted Youth. The Whisky owner Mario Maglieri would soon close the doors to his club for two whole years rather than booking any more punk rock gigs saying - “with punk rock people were so vicious and destructive. Not only inside, but outside. They’d break windows, car windows, all kinds of nonsense. So, I closed the Whisky for two years. Just closed it, cause of that element.”
